Jason and Katherine live
full time aboard
Crystal Stream,
and spend a lot of their time sailing the Mediterranean with
their two cats, Gizmo and Gypsy (who are hardened
sailors, and even have their own lifejackets).
You will find them in and around the yachts in Latchi Harbour
all year round.
They escaped the rat race as Corporate IT Consultants in London,
nearly 7 years ago, and “downsized” – sold up everything in the
UK, and opted for the simpler life as sailors. (It’s really not
that difficult… you just do it!)
Jason and Katherine are both fully qualified RYA
Instructors, and PADI Diving Professionals, and
founded Crystal Marine as a company to indulge their
passions for anything to do with the water. So, now they spend
their time by teaching kids (from age 8) and adults how best to
enjoy the sea.
It is remarkable how often passers by ask the exact same
questions (in fact, it is remarkable how many people come from
Fowey – a place
most people have never heard of!).
Here are a few of the most popular questions – and answers –
that the crew of Crystal get asked every day:
Q “Are you REALLY from Fowey?” or “You’re a long way from home!”
A “Yes! Jason was born in Falmouth and brought up in Weymouth.
But, now Cyprus is home.”
Q “Did you sail the whole way?”
A “Yes! It’s the easiest way
when you’re on a sailing boat!”
Q “Do you really live on board all year – isn’t it cold?”
A “We
live on her full time – it’s our home, and even in the winter,
it’s the warmest place we have EVER lived.”
Q “Do the cats get sea sick?”
A “Yes, occasionally when sailing,
but the cats love being on board - especially when the harbour
gets noisy, they even ‘ask’ to go sailing! |
